War at Sea: Fleet Command Renamed, Box Art Available http://www.wargamingforums.com/testblogging/war-at-sea-fleet-command-renamed-box-art-available/ Wed, 10 Nov 2010 21:48:06 +0000 http://wargamingforums.com/?p=3291

The fifth set of War at Sea has been officially renamed. It was previously known as Fleet Command to distributors and online vendors. In an interesting name choice Wizards of the Coast has interestingly enough renamed the set V, which is also the Roman numeral for 5.

The set officially releases January 2011 (Amazon says January 11, 2011 but they traditionally push back the release closer to that anticipated date). Gamers can pre-order now and in fact can get a great deal from our sponsor, 12-7-Games, when pre-ordering this set. Wizards is keeping the MSRP at $14.99 per booster in this 39 model set. You should also ask your Friendly Local Game Store to stock this set. I know that The Whiz in Westborough, MA and Battleground Games & Hobbies in Abington and Plainville will carry the new set.

I’m very proud to share the below box art (originally seen on Amazon).

This is hopefully the last of the old style of podcasts. I am officially returning to podcasting. Details pertaining to frequency and schedule are being ironed out but the podcast will focus, along with the blog, on historical gaming and New England gaming.

I discuss the podcast’s new direction in this episode alone with some new Flames of War releases and a great deal on pre-ordering the new set of War at Sea titled Fleet Commander, which releases December 7, 2010. Additionally, I explain why I am returning to podcast and discuss my recent guest appearance on Tom Barbalet’s Stone Ape Podcast.

I hope you enjoy Episode 37 of the CWF GameCast and I am eager for your feedback (both positive remarks and constructive criticism). It has been a long time since I’ve done this and I need to get in the hang of things again.

NOTE* My apologies to Tom. At one point during the episode I refer to the Model Rail Radio as Model Rail Railroad. I regret the error.

I am very excited to announce the winner of our first contest. Tone Knight won by entering the contest on our Facebook Page. His submission has awarded him 1 booster from Axis & Allies Minis 1939-1945 North Africa set courtesy of contest sponsor 12-7-Games.

Tone is an avid gamer who bonds with his twin boys over games of Axis & Allies Minis and War at Sea. He lives across the pond in England and is a regular Axis & Allies ForuMINI member. The CWF Game Cast is proud and delighted to announce him as the winner of our first contest.

Thank you to everyone who entered this contest whether on our blog, on our Facebook Page, or our Twitter (@cwfgamecast) account. We also want to once again thank the Axis & Allies ForuMINI, Battleground Games & Hobbies, the Battlestar Galactica Wiki, and Frakmedia LLC for allowing us to promote the contest on their forums, websites, blogs, and Facebook pages.

This contest would not be possible without the generosity of 12-7-Games and its owner Bill. If you ever need historical gaming product please order from 12-7-Games. They are the first recipient of our Editor’s Choice Award and they provide the best customer service we’ve ever experienced from an online vendor.

Thank you again and please visit us again for more New England and gaming news.

This Wednesday night a group of us will be playing War at Sea at the new Battleground Games & Hobbies store in Plainville (25 Taunton Street).

There should be half a dozen or more of us battling it out across the seven seas. This will be the first time a larger group of people will be playing War at Sea at the new location in Plainville. Additionally, it is the first time that most of us will be using any of the models from Condition Zebra.

We will be playing both 100pt and 200pt games with the festivities starting around 7 or 7:30pm. If you are in the area and either want to learn how to play or want to join in the fun then please come on by.

If you don’t have any War at Sea items (or don’t have “enough”) do not despair. I have enough stuff to share with everyone. I’ve purchased at least two cases of every set (only one case of CZ) and 4+ cases of some sets. That is over ten cases worth of stuff that I am happy to let others use while we game.

This should be a fun and hopefully regular occurrence in Plainville.

Our first contest has ended and we are picking the winner. We will let you know who that is and the results of this contest as soon as it is resolved.

Thank you to everyone who took the time to enter this contest. We also have a TON of thanks to our sponsor 12-7-Games for letting us blog and for providing the prize support for this contest. If you ever need a reliable and affordable online vendor with the BEST customer service please give them a try. 12-7-Games is the first recipient of our Editor’s Choice Award and the only (as of writing) online vendor to win that award.

We also have to give a big thank you to the Axis & Allies ForuMINI and to Battleground Games & Hobbies for allowing us to promote this contest on their internet forums.

War at Sea: Set 5 Announced, Named, and Date of Release http://www.wargamingforums.com/testblogging/war-at-sea-set-5-announced-named-and-date-of-release/ Sun, 12 Sep 2010 03:12:11 +0000 http://wargamingforums.com/?p=2871

War at Sea’s Set V will be here before you know it. It was officially announced, named, and a release date provided. This new set, one I never thought we’d see, is named Fleet Commander. It is composed of 40 units, focusing on the engagements and nationalities of the Baltic. Boosters will set for $14.99 each, which is the same MSRP for boosters from the previous sets. According to Wizards of the Coast’s official release schedule this is due out on Friday, December 17, 2010. That is the Friday the week before Christmas.

There is no guarantee that the set will be released on that date because Wizards has been known to change the release schedule to better fit their needs. But, they’d need a compelling reason to do so now that retailers have been given that date.

We do not know what all of the units will be in this set. There has been supposition floating around as to what will and will not be in the set. Luckily we do know what will be appearing. Some of this was made public at Gencon and some was revealed in various postings on Richard Baker’s official blog.
